A handmade carpet is usually named after the place where it was made or from the ethnic group who produced it. Most traditional motifs and colorings have a local connection and it often shows exactly where the carpet is made. Nowadays, it is common in India for example to copy popular Persian styles. A good example of this is Indo-Gabbeh. The most common and mentioned styles are Persian, Afghani, Pakistani, Baluchi, Turkmenistan, Caucasian, Indo, Tibetan, Turkish, Chinese, East Turkestan, European and North African.
The importance of carpet manufacturing throughout the years, with no doubt comes from the Persian carpets. There are a great many Persian styles.
